Offshore Crane Operator (OCO) – BS 7121 Pt 11
Stage 1 Introduction To Offshore Cranes
This course is designed to train and equip participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to be certified as Introduction to Offshore Cranes with the ability to carry out crane pre start visual inspections and perform routine maintenance of the offshore crane. OCO Stage 1 will generally be supervised by a stage 2 or 3 Offshore Crane Operator
Stage 2 Ability To Carry Out All Deck Lifts Unsupervised
This course is designed to train and equip participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to be certified to conduct ALL deck lifts unsupervised including conduct a routine Inspection of an offshore crane, perform routine maintenance and formal reporting
The Stage 2 offshore crane operator course aims to give candidates the knowledge required to operate an offshore crane in a safely and efficiently. This is achieved using various scenarios in an offshore crane simulator and by demonstration from experienced offshore crane operators to conduct deck lifts under supervision.
The course includes both theory and practical components, with participants undertaking practical exercises including operation of crane simulations to ensure familiarity with procedures and crane safety systems.
Stage 3 Ability To Carry Out All Overboard Lifts Unsupervised
This course is designed to train and equip participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to operate an offshore crane safely and efficiently
An offshore crane may include various crane classes mounted to a vessel, FPSO, fixed platforms, Semi-subs, dive vessels and barges.
A Stage 3 certifies the offshore crane operator to conduct ALL offshore lifting activities unsupervised. It is recommended that an Assessor is required to witness the Crane operator in the offshore environment conducting over the side lifting activities.
The course includes both theory and practical components, with participants undertaking practical exercises including operation of crane simulations as required to ensure familiarity with procedures and crane safety systems.
Stage 3 Reassessment
This course is required for Stage 3 Offshore Crane Operators to re-sit every 2 years from the date of certification in accordance with British standards. The course is designed to refresh crane operators on all crane safety systems exercised in the simulation environment including safe and efficient personnel transfers scenarios and subsea lifting operations with Active Heave compensation and Constant tension settings for various subsea lifting activities
